Dmitry Medvedev has arrived in Belarus to look together with Lukashenko play-war “West 2009″
President Dmitry Medvedev has arrived in Belarus, where together with his counterpart Alexander Lukashenko will see the final stage of the operational and strategic maneuvers “West 2009″ with participation of Russia’s troops and Belarusian partisans. It is reported by ITAR-TASS.

The presidents of Russia and Belarus will inspect first mobile field command posts, then will see the onset of the Russian Army forces in a counterattack and landing of 217th Parachute Regiment and 98nd Airborne Division. It will be implemented jointly with the guerrilla of Lida district territorial troops and special operations forces of Belarus.
After that, Dmitry Medvedev and Alexander Lukashenko will review the troops, and then will have a meeting of the leaders. As a result of it the President made a statement to the press.
Extensive operational and strategic doctrine of “West” were not conducted since 1984. This year they took place from 8 to 29 September under the leadership of the Minister of Defense of Belarus and the Armed Forces Chief of Air-forces. The idea of exercise was developed jointly by the staffs of the Armed Forces of the two countries and it is defensive in nature. The main theme of the exercises is to direct training of the Armed Forces of Russia and Belarus to ensure strategic stability in the Eastern European region.
The exercise worked out the organization and rearrangements of military control bodies and forces Russia’s armed forces into the territory of Belarus, as well as the task of applying forces in the containment and elimination of armed conflict, natural and technological disasters, strategic deterrence, the security of the Union State. The exercise in total were involved in about 12,5 thousand troops and 40 aircraft, about 200 pieces of equipment.
